R.A.F. DRESS UNIFORM AND MINIATURE MEDALS TO FLT. LT. LIVINGSTON "CAP" FOSTER, R.A.F.

*** RESERVED *** The miniature dress medals and uniform of Flight Lieutenant L. Foster, Royal Canadian Air Force, a decorated Spitfire pilot who flew alongside the legendary 'Johnny' Johnson. Consists: Distinguished Flying Cross; 1939-1945 Star; Air Crew Europe Star; Defence Medal; Canadian Voluntary Service Medal, with Overseas clasp; War Medal 1939-1945; Jubilee 1953; Canadian Decoration, E.II.R., mounted as worn, the third with additional Air Crew Europe clasp, a little polished, very fine, together with the recipient's Mess Dress, both jacket and trousers, with named label. Description

Livingston 'Cap' Foster flew Spitfires in 403, 416 and 421 Squadrons, including service alongside Air Vice Marshal J. E. 'Johnny' Johnson. He was credited with 4 enemy aircraft destroyed and 1 damaged. Born in Grimsby, Ontario, September 1919, Foster enlisted in Hamilton, 13 May 1940 and flew with Nos. 416 and 403 Squadrons on his first tour (March 1943 to March 1944).

His D.F.C. was Gazetted 24 July 1945 and presented to him in Hamilton, Ontario, 27 July 1949. He rejoined R.C.A.F. as Administrative Officer, 19 March 1951 and
promoted Flight Lieutenant, 1 July 1953.

Credited with the following aerial victories:
17 August 1943, one Bf.110 destroyed (No.403 Squadron; shared with three others);
28 January 1944, one FW.190 damaged (No.403 Squadron);
29 September 1944, one Bf.109 destroyed (No.421 Squadron);
8 December 1944, one Bf.109 destroyed (No.403 Squadron);
28 April 1945, one Do.24 destroyed (No.403 Squadron).

Foster retired from the R.C.A.F. in 1967 with the rank of Squadron Leader and died in Ottawa in 2003. A sportsman of some repute, he was a college champion in track and field, was a scratch golfer for many years, playing at the German Open and racing powerboats in his later years.
