Description

William Frederick McCourt was the son of Sarah Eliza McCourt, of 124 Upper Lloyd St., Moss Side, Manchester. He was serving as Deck Hand aboard HM Trawler Bracklyn on 11 May 1917 when she struck a mine off the coast of Yarmouth, which had been laid by Walter Warzecha's German minelaying submarine UC-1. The former fishing trawler sank taking eleven of her crew with her, including McCourt who is remembered at Plymouth Naval Memorial.
