Description

Military M.B.E. Gazetted 21 June 1945:

"This officer has shown the greatest enthusiasm and drive which has resulted in a constantly highand at times exceptional output of work from his workshop. The workshop of which this officer is in command was selected to repair all WEASELS in the Division at a most critical time when the availability of these vehicles was of the utmost importance. By his great enthusiasm, powers of leadership and his inventive genius, he kept a satisfactory pool of vehicles on the road when no spares whatsoever were available. His devotion to duty and willingness "to do the job himself" if necessary, has been a constant source of inspiration to his men."

William Allan Bailey was appointed 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Artillery on 1 Nov 1941, transferring to the Royal Army Ordnance Corps and Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers as Lieutenant on 1 Oct 1942, rising to the rank of Major and serving with the 130th Infantry Brigade Workshop at the time of the award of his Military M.B.E.
