Constantine Ross was born in Wolverhampton, Staffordshire and worked as a looking glass maker before enlisting with the 1st European Bengal Fusiliers on 10 July 1855.

Serving during the Indian Mutiny, Ross is recorded as Invalided to Europe on 27 Nov 1858.
