Description

Richard Allingham was born in Kilmacteige, Sligo in 1811 and joined the 27th (Inniskilling) Regiment of Foot on 22 Feb 1831, serving at the Cape of Good Hope, with his 'Kaffir War Medal sent to Capt. Sinclair at Glasgow'.

Allingham's Discharge documents of 25 May 1852, after 21 years & 93 days, record the following:

"This is to certify that Private Richard Allingham of the 27th Regiment is affected with chronic catarrh caused by his military service, his hearing completely failed for years, several years of that period at the Cape of Good Hope. He is totally unfit for further military duties."
