Description

Edward Hamill was appointed Cornet with the King's Dragoon Guards on 12 Mar 1812 and Lieutenant on 17 Nov 1814.

During the Battle of Waterloo, there are two Lieutenants of the regiment who are recorded as 'wounded in action': Edward Hamill and William Irvine. Hamill is recorded on the Distribution and Prize List of the First Regiment of Dragoon Guards for the Prize Monies paid to the Officers - Fourth Class: Lieutenant Hamill, Edward £34-14-93/4 paid on 5 August to Messrs. Hopkinson.

In 1822, Hamill transferred to the 2nd West Indian Regiment where he was promoted to the rank of Captain. Hamill finally exchanged to the 66th Foot with whom he served for four years before retiring on half-pay in 1827.
