WWII GROUP OF 6 MEDALS TO LT. COL. D.C. DOBBIN, R.A.

Denys Campbell Dobbin was born in Bury-St-Edmunds, Suffolk on 29 Jan 1915, the son of John Robson Dobbin and Emily Watson Bowen and educated at Rugby School and the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst.

Dobbin was appointed 2nd Lieutenant from Gentleman Cadet on 31 Jan 1935.

The following extract is from the Edinburgh Evening News 17 Feb 1962:

"Scots Soldier Lost Overboard - Commodore R.H.A. Bond, master of the 20,000-ton troopship 'Nevasa', told a Ministry of Transport inquiry at Southampton today that no trace was found of a young soldier who disappeared off Aden on the ship's last voyage to Singapore. The inquiry found that Private Richard Storie, 24, Queen's Own Highlanders, of Craigendmuir St., Glasgow, was presumed to have been lost overboard.

Commodore Bond said an exhaustive search was made of the ship and signals were sent to all vessels and the Aden authorities, but no body was reported seen. At the time of the disappearance the ship was 2300 yards from the coast.

Lieut.-Colonel Denys Dobbin, R.A., ship's commandant, said Storie was last seen after midnight on Jan 12 leaning over the rail on the promenade deck. A board of inquiry held on the ship found that he was presumed to have fallen overboard.

The Ministry inspector, Mr H.W. Wernham, endorsing the ship's log to this effect, said he was unable to call any further evidence as all the Service personnel had landed from the Nevasa at Singapore. Storie was on re-enlistment service."
