Description

Albert Victor Stagg was the son of William Stagg of 7 South Road, South Ealing and was wounded by gunshot wounds to the legs when serving with the 8th Battalion, Middlesex Regiment. Stagg is recorded as Died of Woundson 18 Aug 1915 and is buried at South Ealing Cemetery. The following record is held in the National Archives: "3rd Northern General Hospital, Sheffield.

Condition/Injury/Disease: Shrapnel bullet wound, right leg and left foot.

Details and Outcome: Includes second and third medical case sheets and six clinical charts. Patient wounded 25/04/1915; injuries described on admission at Sheffield (see drawing). X-ray revealed fracture of os calcis (tarsus). Operation performed, 07/05/1915; broken tibia and shrapnel detected. X-ray 21/06/1915 revealed shell fragment, displaced by previous operation; removed, 23/06/1915. Wounds healing by 14/07/1915. Apparently sent to convalescent home as returned with a rash, 28/07/1915; scarlet fever suspected. Patient suffered rigor between 01/08/1915 and 06/08/1915. Phlebitis of femoral vein also suspected. Pulmonary embolism suspected by 15/08/1915. General condition not good by 17/08/1915. Patient died 19/08/1915."
