M.B.E. (Civil Division) Gazetted 31 Dec 1994:

"Kenneth Leslie Sykes. For charitable services in Wakefield, West Yorkshire."

Grounds of recommendation:

"Kenneth Sykes has been the Assistant Secretary to the Brotherton Charity Trust of Wakefield for over 45 yeras. Although in name only, he has been Assistant Secretary, he has in practice been the guiding light behind the success of this particular charity. This charity gives money half-yearly to deserving pensioners in the Wakefield area. At the present time, there are 65 pensioners on our books, and Kenneth Sykes not only makes certain that he knows each pensioner, but also that he keeps in contact with them. There can be few more deserving cases than Kenneth Sykes and I very much hope that you will ensure that his great concern for people is rewarded. Kenneth Sykes retired in 1984 from full time employment with Wakefield charities at the age of 72 and has continued his work with the Brotherton Charity Trust since that date. He is now 83 years old."
